Once you have signed up for an account, you will be able to sell items through The Cupboard. In order to do that, you will have to click on the Sell link.
Note: If you would like to sell your item using a direct payment method such as PayPal you must update your Direct Payment Settings before you list your item(s).
Step 1
You will be directed to a page where you must select the category into which you wish to place your produce or service. This feature has been made in order to ease the subcategory choosing process. No items can be sold by choosing only the main category; you will have to choose a subcategory for it.
If we have not listed the category most appropriate for your product or service you may suggest the addition of a category using the Suggest a Category form.
Step 2
You can now enter the title of your product or service and a description, the more detailed the description of your product or service the better.
Things you may wish to list in the description of your item:
Size
Colour
Condition
You may also, at this point in the listing process, choose between a Full Listing (all listing options are shown) and a Quick Listing (only basic listing options are shown).
Note: If you are using a voucher code you have received you need to enter it at this point.
Step 3
The Auction Settings page allows you to choose:
• The type of the auction you would like - Standard (you can only sell one item at a time) or Dutch (a quantity of more than one item is accepted).
• The currency (your auction will be listed with the currency of your choosing). We have a currency converter built into The Cupboard if you should wish to market your item beyond your own country.
• The start price (this is the amount you would like bidding to begin at).
• To enable reserve and set a reserve price. By enabling reserve, the auction wont have any winner(s) unless their bids are above the reserve price.
• To enable "Buy Now" and set a "Buy Now" price. If you enable "Buy Now", users will be able to purchase your item instantly, without the need for the auction end time to be reached.
• What type of bid increment to use. The progressive one implemented into The Cupboard or a custom one. If you choose the custom one, you will have to enter your own increment value.
• To feature the item. There are four different ways in which you can feature your item: Home Page (your item will appear on the homepage of The Cupboard), Category Pages (your item will appear in a box at the top of the category in which it is listed), Highlighted (your item will appear to be highlighted) and Bolded (the lettering of your items title will be in bold).
• The start and end time for your listing.
• To have a Private Auction. By enabling this option, bidders on this auction will be hidden to site users, and only you (the owner of the auction) will be able to see the usernames of the bidders. Bid amounts will still be visible.
• To accept Swap Offers. By enabling this option, members will be able to offer you things to swap for your item.
• To upload an image and/or media file for your auction.
• To enable Auto Relist and configure the related settings.
Step 4
You can now enter the Shipping & Payment Details for your listing.
Both direct payment (i.e. PayPal) and offline payment (i.e. Cheque) can be offered as payment options.
Step 5
Review and submit your auction listing.
When you first sign up to The Cupboard we will credit your account with 3.00 GBP to give you the opportunity to sell an item without spending any money.
» Please note this credit has no monetary value and is there purely to give you the chance to sell an item for free, no cash alternative will be given.
» Should the listing fee equate to a value greater than 3.00 GBP the remaining balance will be deducted from your Cupboard Account.
Once you have spent your complimentary credit you may add funds to your account using PayPal. Everytime you sell an item through The Cupboard the fees will be calculated and deducted from your account balance. If you do not wish to add funds to your account straight away, we can sub you. The maximum debit amount (the maximum amount of money The Cupboard will allow you to borrow) is displayed in My Cupboard as is your current balance and the minimum amount with which you can credit your account.
Should you go over the maximum debit amount your account will be suspended until you have cleared your balance.
You can see a current list of the Auction Fees here.
Should your item remain unsold at the end of the auction you may re-list your item for free. In order to qualify for this discount the item must be re-listed through the Selling » Closed section of My Cupboard.
If you would like to check how much an item will cost to list before you actually list it you can use the handy Fees Calculator found in the Selling section of My Cupboard.
If you would like to combine shipping costs for anyone who buys more than one item from you at a time, you may use the invoicing service to re-calculate costs. When someone buys an item from you you have the option to send them an invoice, they also have the option to request an invoice from you. When you send the invoice you can alter the postage costs if you wish. The invoicing options can be found in the Selling » Sold Items section of My Cupboard.
If you do intend to combine shipping costs it may be worth adding that information to your item listing.
